Megan Rohrer, PhD and DMin, is a San Francisco-based community leader, historian, artist, and advocate known for decades of work supporting marginalized, unhoused, and LGBTQ communities. A nationally recognized voice on faith, social justice, and community care, Megan has been featured by Netflix’s Queer Eye, People, Cosmopolitan, and media outlets around the world.
In 2021, Megan became the first openly transgender bishop elected in a mainline Christian denomination. He is also the author of more than 50 books exploring LGBTQ history, spirituality, and social change, including Arcadia Publishing’s bestselling Images of America book documenting the history of San Francisco’s Transgender District.
An award-winning author, filmmaker, and public historian, Megan was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award in transgender nonfiction and received international recognition for the documentary Zanderology. His community leadership and advocacy have also been recognized by Wisdom in Action alongside His Holiness the Dalai Lama and during the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in Wittenberg, Germany.
Megan currently serves as Policy Director at Compass Family Services in San Francisco while continuing to create art, support community storytelling, and advocate for a more compassionate and just world.
